The 8255 Rescue Bike, along with its brothers 8252 and 8253, make up a set of modular, reconfigurable rescue vehicles.  Each feature a number of detachable modules which can be recombined in multiple ways either within the set, or with each other.  Somewhat like 8244, the idea is a good one for play variety but suffers due to the fact the most of the possible alternate configurations don't really make any sense.  Still, if you should want to put landing skids on your motorcycle or off-road wheels under your rotor, you can.  The instructions for each model featured photos of some of the other possible configurations.

These sets were clearly made with a very young audience in mind.  The parts came sorted into many different bags inside the box, one bag for each module even though only 20 parts may be required.

This particular set makes use of green flexible parts which are very rare.

Modules

This model has a total of 4 modules.  Of all the modular sets, this has the most logical modules consisting of the front and rear of the motorcycle, a sidecar, and a watercraft.  The modules are connected together with the unique transparent connector blocks (neon green in this set) and double pins (green in this set).  Each connector block can be used in one of three orthogonal orientations.

Steering

This motorcycle may have the strangest steering of any Technic model.  The fork rotates on a raked axle in a pretty normal way, but on this bike the rider is suspended from the handlebars and therefore swings with the steering.  The animation must be seen to appreciate the oddity.  Looks pretty uncomfortable.

Boat

The top of the sidecar detaches to become a boat.  A set of hidden wheels turn a 3-bladed propeller via a belt.

Dudes

Ponch and John cruise the highways looking for people in trouble.  They are equipped with 2-way radios and what appear to be grenades for those who are reluctant to be rescued.  There is supposed to be a sticker showing a knife on the leg, but mine appears to be missing.

The two figures are identical except for the helmet.  They appear only in this set.  The green helmet is also unique to this set.  The white helmet has a snake logo printed on it.

Wheels and Tires

This set uses two 13x24 Model Team wheels and tires as well as one of the smallest VR rubber tires and wheels for the sidecar.
