This set 42065 RC Tracked Racer is released in 2017. First time to explore to power of tracked vehicles from a speed perspective. RC is a bit confusing because it comes with the standard power functions package which is actually based on Bluetooth technology. However that is just a remark for the possible purist reading this blog!
There we two other sets with powered tracks but those were more functional than for pure speed. It is set 8043 - Motorized Excavator and 8275 - Motorized Bulldozer. For those sets I still need to buy, build and review them to see how those mechanisms work compared to this one.
Grab the remote control and drive this super-robust vehicle over obstacles, accelerate at breakneck speed, and perform spins and turns in forward or reverse gear! The fun is that like in the early real tracked vehicles 2 engines were applied one for each track so the construction is pretty simple for the huge amount of playability and fun. Especially if your friends have one as well, you can do some serious competition on both tracks and speed.

As all sets released in 2017 the 40 year anniversary of Lego Technic the sets have a lift arm L3with a 40-years print on it. This set has this brick in sight at right rear end.

This set is powered by 2x Light Bluish Gray Electric, Motor 9V Power Functions M with Dark Bluish Gray Bottom with a Light Bluish Gray Electric Power Functions Receiver Unit with Dark Bluish Gray Bottom (Bluetooth) and finally the Light Bluish Gray Electric Power Functions 9V Remote Control Unit. The motors are placed at each end of the vehicle. I suspect because of the width of the set planned. The motor just ends at the mid stud of the set so if you would place both on one end the set had to become 2 studs wider. Enyway it does not harm the performance at all. Because of the high quality of power equipment there is barely offset if you drive a straight line and with the spinning, even on a smooth surface it stays in its place. Very satisfying to my opinion.
The steering of this vehicle is superb. You either steer by just moving either the left or right motor for turing right or left. You need to pay attention you have the swithes right on the remote control to move in the right direction as your brains fit well. For me I switched the connectors from color positions because my brain expects to turn right when you push the right lever. Especially when you have carpet the speed and turning is great, because with laminate flooring the drive is good as well,but the steering is with a lot of drift and slip.
The spinning is even more fun. By just pushing one lever on the remote control you can steer in a certain direction, however do you pull the opposite lever backwards the vehicle starts to spin, or in other words you can change directions in a heart beat. Not sure how this would work in real life though, but who cares this is fun. Especially with a cat chasing this one it gets to hiilarious situations. With the limecolor scheme and the flashing livery, you have a fun car to speed through the living room.
The canopy or actually the bodywork is hinged at the front so you can flip it open mainlyto give access to the battery box underneath it. I do miss some form of interior. There is place for some seat and steering wheel. So with the main purpose of Lego there is room for imagination and adjsutments to your liking.
