I am a real fan of these small sets because it forces you to become as creative as possible with limited room and limited number of parts. The designer of this set nailed this very well. At first I was surprised that there was no alternative model, but taking the brilliant way this set is designed this will spark young kids enough to come up with there own alternatives, because this set has all the ingredients for it!

This small set has a full functioning backhoe with luffing boom and bucket. This shows that when the limitations are set the creativity prevails. With the Black Technic, Liftarm, Modified Ball Joint and Dark Bluish Gray Technic, Axle Connector 2 x 3 with Ball Joint Socket this backhoe has all the needed movements. Although all by hand ofcourse because of the size of the set, the boom can slew, boom can be lowered and lifted. Icing on the cake is the bucket by using a Black Technic, Panel Curved 2 x 3 x 1,to my opinion genius! You see with limitations set by size and number of pieces to use you just get a set that would inspire kids to do more. |

Here in this small set there is a true mechanisme with a Light Bluish Gray Technic, Gear Worm Screw handledthrough a gear on top of the cabin and through a Dark Bluish Gray Technic, Gear 8 Tooth with Dual Face connected to the booms to lift and lower the bucket. THis is a typical construction but gives small kids/toddlers already a way to learn how worm wheel based mechanisms work and how to redirect power tangential. Great way to fit this in this small set. |

By now you discovered that I am in the first place fan of small sets and in this case the cherry on the cake are the outriggers, just imagined by two lift arms of 5L.Simply brilliant in creativity. Of course do not function as such but still it means the designer went the extra mile to fit this set with all the necessary features it should have! |
